The question is: What direction do you want this profession to take? Since the mid-nineties a small minority has been working to introduce prescription drug rights into the scope of practice and educational curriculum of the chiropractic profession. They are well organized. They are well connected. In a battle of “world views”, those who cling to the “rational” mechanistic/medical scientific paradigm in chiropractic continue to dominate those who have adopted the “post-rational” vitalistic/holistic scientific paradigm first espoused by DD Palmer over a hundred years ago.
During my tenure as Secretary/Treasurer of the International Chiropractors Association (ICA) (2009-2013), these efforts surfaced in New Mexico and Colorado and the International Chiropractors Association was called upon to assist their members in those states concerned with the potential negative consequences associated with the abandonment of our long standing “drug free” approach to patient care. As the ICA increased its support of members in New Mexico and began publicly advocating against the introduction of “Prescription Drug Rights”, it became apparent that there was a need for accurate and referenced information regarding what was “factually” happening within our profession.
In 2012 I conceived and created the ICA In Action e-newsletter publishing Vol. 1, Issue 1 on March 14, 2012.
This Journal/Blog has been created to chronicle the history of the “Pro-Drug” movement in the Chiropractic profession and the efforts of the ICA to preserve the ability of patients to seek non-pharmaceutical based health care. Many of the articles are reprints from ICA publications. My “posts” and my personal editorial comments are mine alone, and do not represent an official position of the International Chiropractors Association.
I welcome feedback. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org with your thoughts, suggestions or any information you think would be of interest to the chiropractic community.
